David T. Daniel, Jr. was born September 26, 1953 to David and Naomi Daniel in Birmingham, Alabama.  He was educated in the Birmingham School system and attended Shields Elementary School and Hayes High School.  He went on to attend Jefferson State Junior College where he obtained a certified degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.  While Pursuing his passion for entrepreneurship, he started his own business specializing in air conditioning, heating and electrical repair.  He served many residences and businesses throughout the Jefferson County area.

He accepted Christ at an early age and was a active member of the 45th Street Baptist Church.  “Randy” as he was affectionately called by many, was a member of the choir and served as Youth Choir, Boy Scouts and the church athletic league. He later joined The Lighthouse Church under the leadership of the late Apostle Eric Smith.

On July 25, 1980, he married Charmellia Hale in Birmingham, Alabama.  Their   union blended and birthed five children.  He took pride in his children and was very proud of all of their accomplishments.  Out of all of the accomplishments of his children, the opportunity to be called “Big Papa” by his grandchildren was by far the greatest.

Having a heart for people regardless of race, culture or socioeconomic background, David heeded the call of God on his life and was ordained to ministry in 1982.  As a licensed evangelist, he founded “Jesus is On the Way Ministries”.  This ministry afforded him the opportunity to travel though out the state and country spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.  His passion for ministry extended beyond the four walls of the church and yielded countless revivals, crusades and even moments where he had service out of the back of his truck.  During a revival in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1990, the mantle was passed to him and he became the Senior Pastor of Lighthouse Church, along with his wife and partner in ministry.  He relocated to Tuscaloosa and for the next 29 years, he served the community and city of Tuscaloosa in various capacities such as Light Community Center and the Prison Love team.

He continued his quest for entrepreneurship and launched Bishops Blessed Melons.  Not only was he slated as having the best watermelons in town, but patrons would often come to buy a watermelon and leave with a word of encouragement..  The location did not matter to him. Whether in the grocery store, the barber shop or under the tree with the melons, he made it his business to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Prison Love Team became the pinnacle of his ministry.  He developed and coordinated volunteer groups to visit the   local youth detention center, city and county jail, and the state prisons.  He traveled throughout the state ministering at Draper, Donaldson, Bibb, Limestone and Elmore systems where thousands of inmates received salvation and aftercare needs.  He was also a certified coach, trainer and mentor for Prison Fellowship of America where he was recognized nationally by the late Chuck Colson for outstanding leadership and service.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Daniel, Sr.; sister, Janie Faye Holmes and brother, Darryl H. Daniel.

During a brief illness, God saw fit to call his servant home on Friday, October 4, 2019 at DCH Regional Medical Center.

He is survived by: Wife, Dr. Charmellia Daniel; Children, Erika (Jomaica), Rolland, Kelandus, David,III (Shaunte) and Armiriam; Mother, Naomi Daniel; Mother-in-Love, Rosie Hale; Brother, DeWayne (JeTonja)Daniel; Brothers-in-Love,    Andrew (Vanessa)Hale, Glenn Hale, George Holmes; Grandchildren, Jaland, Jaaron, Jaaden, Khloe, Destiny and David IV; Aunt, Juanita Brooks; Uncle, James Mitchell, The Lighthouse Church Family and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
