James Lee Matthews was born January 11, 1964.
He was the 5th child born to the late Mrs. Hazel J. Woods
“Jamie” as he was so lovingly known, was educated in the Walker County School
System. He attended Sumiton Elementary & Middle School and graduated Dora
High School in 1983.
From early in his life, he was very independent. He began working when he was
17, his junior year of high school at Foodland Groceries and continued until he
graduated. He began working for U.S. Pipe for 35 plus year, until his passing.
He met and married Ms. Dora Wingate, and to this union 2 daughters were born.
Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, Mrs. Hazel Jane Woods & Mr.
Freeman Woods Jr., grandparents, Mrs. Margaret Danley & Mr. James Ned
Howard, great grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Will & Jessie Matthews and brother
William Larry Matthews.
Jamie leaves a family that loves him so very much. 2 daughters whom he adored,
Ms. Jamesica Matthews and Ms. Stacie Matthews, both of Jasper, AL., 5 grandsons
who is his pride and joy, Terrence & Zaylen McDavid, Co’Marius Matthews,
Camden Matthews, Corbin Matthews all of Jasper, AL. , a special friend Ms. Leslie
Davis, Jasper AL, 3 Sisters Margaret (Matthew) Martin, Angela (Edwin) Grant of
Birmingham, AL and his baby sister, Nichelle Woods, Sumiton, AL. 3 Brothers, Mr.
Andrew Matthews Birmingham, AL and Mr. Freeman Woods III, Sumiton, AL. and
Mr. Tony Clayton, Lowell MA. 3 Aunts Elder Alice (Bishop Bernard) Steele,
