Virgilrene Snead Obituary

Ms. Virgilrene Snead, was born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 17, 1951, to the late Virgil Snead and the late Ola B. Skanes.  She was the oldest girl and the second oldest of ten children. Her oldest daughter Alechea Ramona (Dirk) Toney-Dick, grandson Joshua Jamal Brown (JJ), along with three siblings, Sidney Tyrone Snead, Samantha M. Beasley-Davis, and Flynn D. Broady Sr. preceded her in death.

At a very young age, Virgilrene Snead was baptized in the Church of Open Doors in Brooklyn, New York.  She confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in her adult life and was vehement that she maintained a relationship with God.  She became a member of Faith Deliverance Overflow Ministries Inc., under the leadership of Pastor Shepherd Skanes.  

She attended New York City Schools including PS 7 in Brooklyn, NY, PS 136, IS 192, Andrew Jackson High School in St. Albans (Queens), NY and York College in Jamaica, NY.  Right after graduating from Andrew Jackson High School she married Alexander Toney (Alex) in 1968.  From this union was born Alechea R. Toney.  She traveled with her husband who was in the United States Air Force at the time.  After traveling she settled back in Queens, New York.  Virgilrene later had two other children, Maisha L. Toney, and Shamise Michael Dennis.  In the early 80’s Virgilrene moved to Birmingham, Alabama.  After several years she remarried Jackie Hall (Slim), and from this union was born Onyx Oliver Snead.

When Virgilrene health start failing her she became a resident of the Northway Nursing Facility on 24th Street North.  Her illness kept her in and out of the hospitals in Birmingham, Alabama.  

Virgilrene departed this life on April 19, 2019 in the presences of her loving Children, Family and Friends.  She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Maisha Leola Toney, two sons, Shamise Michael Dennis, Onyx Oliver Snead, all of Birmingham, AL.; six grandchildren, Kiara Van Brackle (kiki), Syracuse, NY, Nyrobi Dejon Dick, Far Rockaway NY, Artrell Deshun Brown, Anyia Michel Brown, Paulsboro NJ, Rozetta Yarnisha Davenport, Birmingham, AL, Tomichael Michelle Dennis, Mobile AL.; One Son-n-law Dirk Dejon Dick, Far Rockaway, NY; three brothers, Williams Alonzo (Gabrielle) Snead, Alonzo (Maritheia) Simmons, Shepherd (Debra) Skanes; three sisters, Cynthia Snead (Ernest) Wallace, Reauchean Simmons (Paul) Matthews, Zelzeta Simmons (Daniel) Kamau, all of Birmingham, Al., and a host of relatives and friends.
