Eddie Lee Gray, Sr. was born on August 7, 1943 to Phil and Bessie Gray, Sr. He confessed
Christ at an early age at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He was very active in the church.
Lee was the Ministry Leader of the Deacons Ministry, he was a member of the Brotherhood
Ministry, he served on the #1 Usher Ministry and worked on the janitorial staff.
Lee attended G. W. Scott Elementary School. He graduated from Western-Olin High School and
Wenonah State Technical Institute. He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1968. He
worked for Conner Steel from 1968 to 1983; the City of Birmingham from 1983 to 1987 and the
United States Postal Service from 1987 until retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Cora Huggins, Willie Ann Hardy, Paul
Gray, Phil Gray, Jr. and Charlie Gray.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 48 years, Charlotte Gray; a son, Eddie Lee Gray,
Jr.; daughter, Nakia Gray-Britt; four (4) grandchildren: Quardarrian Gray, NaKarah Britt, Eddie
Lee Gray, III and Gabriella Gray; three (3) siblings: Kissie Jackson, Dorothy Tanniehill and
Paulette Williams; two (2) brothers-in-law: Milton Pritchett and Essiex Pritchett; four (4)
sisters-in-law: Wilhelmenia (Robert) James, Arlie (Willie) Cook, Bertha Purdom and Carolyn
Levins, all of Birmingham, Alabama and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews,
great-nieces and friends.
