Gertrude Belser was born to the late Alice B. Hill and the late Ernest Sledge at Hillman University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
Gertrude confessed Christ at an early age, she was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church. Gertrude was educated in the Birmingham School System. She worked in the medical industry as she had a passion for taking care of people.
Upon retirement Gertrude enjoyed decorating her home for every holiday. She loved watching her game shows, soap operas and her beloved westerns. Gertrude’s biggest joy came with spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Elijah B. Hill, Darnell Hill and Lorenzo Hill. Two sons, Ernest King and Autoro Griggs.
She is survived by husband, Ulysses Belser; son, Jeffery Griggs; daughter, Wendy Griggs; sister, Ervina Lawrence; brother, Jerome (Veronica) Hill; grandsons, Andre’ (Christy) Griggs and
Terrance Baker; granddaughters, Bridget Griggs and Tyleshe King; great granddaughters, Amber Griggs and Jada Griggs; great grandsons, Kameron Grimmett and Ashton Griggs and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones.
