Valta was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 22, 1960 to the late Robert Bennett and Willie Nell Jackson. 

Valta was married to the late Joel Hutchins. She had one son-in-law, the late Aaron Franklin and a stepson, the late Latanna Hutchins.

Valta leaves to cherish her memories: the love of her life, her daughter Shawanda Bennett, a stepson Jerald Hutchins, a lovin mother, Willie Nell Jackson, a stepmother, Faye Bennett, 4 brothers: Dannie (Shanae) Bennett, Darryl (Cynthia) Bennett, Thercedio (Adrienne) Bennett, Keun (Shankeema) Hill; 2 sisters: Lolita (Russell) Harris and Sonya (Cedric) Bennett, 3 grandchildren that she loved dearly: Darius, Jasha, and Shaniya Bennett, 2 great grandboys who stole her heart: Robert Lacey, Jr and Major Bennett along with a host of nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
