Vidis McCoy Obituary

Mrs. Vidis McCoy was born October 21, 1926 in Birmingham, AL to the tale Roosevelt & Amelia Patterson. At the age of 12, she was baptized and served at Oak Street Baptist church. She attended Lewis Elementary School and graduated from A.H. Parker High School. As a young lady she played baseball for the Birmingham Women's Negro League. September 30, 1942, Vidis married Mr. William C. McCoy. November, 1957 the couple and their 3 children relocated to Buffalo, New York. Vidis became a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of  Rev. Samuel Austin, where she served on the Nurse's Guild until 1994. In the early 1960's Vidis was employed with Rosa Coplin Jewish Nursing home as a nurse's assistant. In the 70's she worked for her second full time job working alongside of her sister and brother in law in their family's owned and operated businesses until retirement. September, 1994 Vidis became a faithful member of Cold Spring COGICJ; Pastor Joseph L. Wallace. She was an active choir member, served on the Hospitality committee and Mother's Board. January, 2005 Mrs. McCoy attended church service with her family under the leadership of Pastor Kevin Bufford, Bessemer, AL. When she was no longer able to attend church service, Pastor Bufford and Pastor Erwin Luster visited her at home and during hospital admissions. December, 2004 Vidis decided to leave the cold weather in buffalo, NY to return to the warmer climate of her home in Birmingham. The very next month she joined by her daughter, grand daughter and two great grandchildren; Alliah and Deion Sanford. Silver grey hair neatly combed in place with 6 generations of love on her face Vidis transitioned on July 23, 2019. Proceeded in death: William C. McCoy (Husband) Juanita Shepherd (Sister) Roosevelt "Pat" Patterson (Brother) Ramone Tracey McCoy (Grandson). Vidis leaves to cherish her memories: William C. McCoy, JR (Son; Buffalo, NY) Brenda McCoy-Alston (Daughter; Birmingham, AL) Gyrone McCoy (Son; Buffalo, NY); Brother in law, Phillip Shepherd; Grandchildren: Malia Ruffin (Birmingham, AL), Ramell McCoy (Christine), GiGi Davis and Tiffany Taylor McCoy (Buffalo, NY), LaChez McCoy-Bowie (Dennis) Atlanta, GA, 16 Grand-Children, Nephews Carl Allison, Patrick "Donny" Patterson, Dwayne Shepherd and Darrell Shepherd, 1 devoted niece, Charlotte Raspberry.
